How to use

Notes on this tool
This tool only changes the file's format — the image's dimensions stay exactly as they were. If you also want to change the size, the image resizer changes both the format and the dimensions together.
PNG and WebP keep transparency, but JPG cannot — so if your image has transparent areas and you convert it to JPG, the transparent parts of the original image are filled with the colour you choose.
WebP is usually smaller than JPG at the same quality, and often looks better too, but some older software and systems still don't accept it. If you're not sure where it will be used, JPG is the safer choice.
iPhone photos are saved as HEIC, which no browser can open. Set your camera to “Most Compatible” so future photos are saved as JPG.

How is this different from resizing an image?
This tool only changes the format — the dimensions stay the same. If you want to change both the format and the size at once, the image resizer does both together.
Which format is best for uploading to a website?
If the site or form doesn't specify, JPG is the safest choice since it's accepted everywhere. If the image needs transparency (like a logo), choose PNG.
Why did the file get bigger after converting to PNG?
PNG uses lossless compression and keeps every detail of the image, so for a real photo (not simple graphics) it usually comes out larger than JPG or WebP at a similar quality. If file size matters, also try the image compressor.
