How to use
- Choose what you want from the three buttons at the top: work out the price you pay (after applying a discount percentage), work out the discount percentage (by entering the price before and after), or work out the price you pay after applying two discounts one after another (a stacked discount).
- Choose the currency and enter the figures. The same number, with separators added, appears underneath that box, making the digit count easier to check.
- The answer appears immediately and has a copy button.
Notes on this tool
Persian and Latin digits are both accepted, and a comma is read as a thousands separator, so you can paste a price exactly as you copied it from a shop's site.
The resulting price is rounded to the nearest whole unit. Shops usually round the final figure too, so the till may differ by a little.
In “percentage off”, if the second price is higher than the first, the answer says how much the price went up rather than reporting a negative discount.
Sales tax is not part of this calculation. If a shop adds tax separately, work it out on the price you pay.
Frequently asked questions
Is “20% discount plus another 10% discount” the same as 30% off?
If the second discount is applied after the first, no. In that case the second discount comes off a price that has already been reduced, so altogether it is 28%, not 30%. The “two discounts” option works this out and shows the real percentage together with the amount you pay.
I have the final price and the percentage, and want the original price.
In the first option, enter the percentage and try figures in the price box until what you pay matches the shop's. For a direct calculation, the percentage calculator has a “what percentage of what” option.
Why does the till show a different number?
Usually one of three things: sales tax added separately, the final amount rounded, or a discount with a cap — “30% off, up to 50,000 Toman”. This tool does not know about a cap, so if the offer has one, take the smaller figure.
Can I paste a price with commas and spaces in it?
Yes. A comma is recognised as a thousands separator and stray spaces are ignored, so “1,250,000” is read as one million two hundred and fifty thousand.
