Notes on this tool

The first tab gives a percentage of a number, the second tells you what percentage one number is of another, and the third measures the percentage change between two values.

Percentage change is always measured against the starting value. Going from 100 to 150 is a 50% increase, but coming back from 150 to 100 is roughly a 33% decrease — two different numbers for the same gap.

The change tab also shows how many times larger the value became, which many people find easier to read.

When a result has been rounded, a ≈ sign appears beside it and the more precise value is shown in brackets.

Persian and Latin digits are both accepted, and decimals are fine.

Frequently asked questions

What is 20 percent of 150?
It is 30. Divide 20 by 100 and multiply by 150 — the first tab does exactly that.
Why is a tenfold increase 900 percent and not 1000?
Because percentage increase counts only what was added; the original value is the 100 percent baseline and is not counted again. However many times bigger it became, minus one, times a hundred.
Why is there no result when the starting value is zero?
Percentage change is measured against the starting value, and dividing by zero is undefined — so no percentage exists, however large the ending value.
How do I take a percentage off a price?
Use the first tab to enter the discount percentage and the price to get the discount amount, then subtract it from the price. For a direct calculation of the final price, use the discount calculator.
