Notes on this tool
Words joined with the Persian zero-width non-joiner count as one word, not two.
“Characters without spaces” is the character count with spaces left out. Translation and editing work is often paid on this figure; if that is not your situation, the plain character count is the one you want.
Reading time assumes about 200 words per minute. Technical writing is usually read more slowly.
The most-frequent-words list skips very common words so it stays useful.
Frequently asked questions
Are numbers and punctuation counted?
In the character count, everything you type is counted. In the word count, numbers count as words but standalone punctuation does not.
Why is the sentence count different from mine?
Sentences are split on full stops, question marks and exclamation marks. Text without punctuation counts as a single sentence, and a decimal point or an ellipsis can add one.
Is my text stored anywhere?
No. It stays in browser memory while the page is open and disappears when you close it.
Does it work for very long text?
Yes, though counting may slow slightly for extremely long documents, since all the work happens on your own device.
