How to use

Notes on this tool
Passwords come from the browser's own cryptographically secure random generator, and a new one appears whenever you change a setting.
Length matters more than complexity. Twelve to sixteen characters for ordinary accounts, sixteen or more for email and banking.
The entropy figure shows how unguessable the password is. Each unit doubles the number of possibilities, and above 80 is considered safe for most purposes.
A character repeating inside a password is perfectly normal and is not a weakness — if repeats never happened, the password would not be truly random.
This tool does not store passwords — use a password manager to keep them.
Frequently asked questions
Is the generated password sent anywhere?
No. It is created inside your browser and no network request is made. The tool keeps working with the connection switched off.
How often should I change my password?
The old “every three months” advice is no longer recommended, because it pushed people towards simple, similar passwords. Change a password when there is a reason to — for example news of a breach at that service.
Why exclude look-alike characters?
In many fonts lowercase l, uppercase I and the digit 1 look nearly identical, and so do O and 0. If you will type or write the password by hand, leaving those look-alike characters out of the generated password saves you from mistakes. This has nothing to do with characters repeating.
Do I need symbols?
Not necessarily. A longer password of letters and digits is safer than a short one full of symbols. Symbols matter when a service caps how many characters you may use and you cannot make the password longer.
