How to use

Notes on this tool

This tool is conservative on purpose: it makes only the changes nearly every Persian writer agrees on. The comparative suffix “tar” is never joined to the word before it, because the same two letters also spell a word meaning “wet”, and there is no way to tell which is meant. The superlative “tarin” is not a word on its own, so that one is joined.

A Latin comma is never turned into a Persian one; that would break a file name, a web address or a formula sitting inside the text.

Your original text stays untouched in the upper box so you can see the two side by side. If the result is not what you wanted, change the switches and look again.

Blank lines between paragraphs are kept; only runs of more than one blank line are shortened.

Frequently asked questions

What is the half-space, and why does it matter?
It is an invisible character that keeps two parts of a word apart without putting a full space between them. The present-tense prefix and its verb are one word joined this way; written with a full space they read as two words, and written with nothing between them the word is simply misspelt. The difference shows up in search, in word counts and in alphabetical lists.
Why is text copied out of a PDF or a chat app such a mess?
Because several invisible things usually come with it: unusual space characters, letters stretched to justify a line, and characters that look Persian but are a different letter underneath. This tool removes all three.
Why doesn't it fix everything by itself?
Because not every rule is settled. Many joins in Persian are a matter of taste, and a tool that imposes its taste on your writing is worse than one that does too little. Everything done here is something almost nobody argues about.
Can it handle a very long document?
Yes, there is no limit, even for something the size of a book. All the work happens on this page (on your own computer or phone) — only on an older phone might it take a little longer.
